The name "Barzanji" is derived from the author, a distinguished Sufi known as Sheikh Ja'far bin Husin bin Abdul Karim bin Muhammad Al-Barzanji. He is widely recognized for his celebrated Maulid, also referred to as Mawlid Al-Barzanji. The complete title of this work is 'Iqd Al-Jawahir (Necklace of Pearls) or 'Iqd Al-Jawhar fi Mawlid An-Nabiyyil Azhar. Notably, Barzanji is also the name of a location in Kurdistan, specifically Barzanj. The prominence of the name Al-Barzanji rose during the 1920s when Sheikh Mahmud Al-Barzanji led a national Kurdish uprising against British rule in Iraq.
